Breda O’Rourke

Counsellor / Psychotherapist

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with an MSc in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I am a member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP). Empathy is at the heart of how I work. I believe that feeling genuinely heard, understood and accepted is an important part of the therapeutic process. I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where clients can feel comfortable being themselves and exploring what may be troubling them.

My approach is pluralistic, recognising that every person is unique and that there is no single approach to therapy that works for everyone. I work collaboratively with each client, taking the time to understand their individual experiences, needs and goals. I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Choice Theory and Reality Therapy, alongside trauma-informed practice.

I work with both men and women experiencing a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, confidence and self-esteem, trauma, sexual issues and life transitions.

I also work with men around men’s issues and the pressures of masculinity, providing a safe and confidential space to explore emotions, expectations, relationships and the challenges that can come with feeling the need to cope alone.

I believe therapy is a shared process. My role is not to tell you what you should do, but to support you in exploring your thoughts, feelings and experiences. Through greater self-awareness, understanding and compassion, we can work together towards meaningful and positive change.

This is how I work — meeting each person where they are, with empathy, acceptance, respect and genuine understanding.
